Just south of Sidney in Saanich is Heritage Acres, home of the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society.  The first thing you see is a large field, brilliant with yellow mustard in spring and dotted with old-fashioned stalks of golden oats in late summer.  Behind a line of trees, you can visit a blacksmith shop, sawmill, woodwork shop, planer mill, old school, church, and mechanical shop.  There are lots of hands-on exhibits to entertain children from 2 to 92 and, best of all, a model steam train to ride!

The Sooke Regional Museum traces the area's history from the aboriginal tribes, through early settlers and up to more modern times. View the shipwreck display or tour a pioneer family cottage, but don't forget the gift shop and art gallery while you're there.

When you drive through picturesque Metchosin farmland, be sure stop by local artisans like 'Chosin Pottery. Our unique Island has one of the largest artist populations in North America.
